Why is radiant heat more comfortable?
Because radiant heat is like the sun's heat. It travels through the air until it finds an object. Most conventional systems rely on convective heating, which relies on heating the air, and creating a natural convection. Have you ever crawled into a bed that seemed rather chilly under the covers? That's what happens with convective heating - the air is warm, not the surrounding objects. |

How is radiant heat more efficient?
Radiant heat uses a lower boiler temperature, which equates to lower fuel bills. A properly designed radiant heating system, depending on the flooring, will operate at around 130° F, whereas the average heating system is designed to circulate water between 180° F to 200° F. (you can safely figure 1% fuel saving for every 3° F you can lower the system temperature)
This is why we emphasize boiler modulation from weather responsive controls. If everyone did this we could reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption by 20-40% in every home and business in America.
