Plumbing has changed dramatically in the past 15 years, copper tubing is becoming more and more obsolete. The use of plastics such as pex tubing has taken over the industry due to its flexibility and lifespan. Copper is failing at an alarming rate on plumbing & heating systems due largely in part to the quality of our water slowly diminishing. Pex tubing is virtually unaffected by severe water conditions. Pex tubing is something we have been using on radiant systems for over 20 years. Just in the past 10 years we have used it on domestic water systems.
Jim Godbout Plumbing & heating does still use copper in some applications where it is accessible. Pex is like running wire and very difficult to make a neat and quality-looking job, so sometimes we opt for copper in the basements where it would be accessible. Another product that has improved plumbing systems as of late, is the use of pvc pipe called 'foam core'. This product allows you to have the quiet features of cast iron with the flexibility of pvc. Jim Godbout Plumbing & Heating will install anything when it comes to plumbing from hand made copper sinks on granite to a urinal in a residential home.
