Volunteers rescue iconic Waterhouse Field

September 10, 2018

The Biddeford community, led by Jim Godbout and supported by local businesses and volunteers, successfully revitalized the iconic Waterhouse Field, showcasing community pride and dedication through extensive renovations and upgrades.

The Biddeford community has exemplified its strong sense of unity and pride through the successful completion of an 18-month restoration project of the Waterhouse Field, a central sports landmark. The project was initiated in response to safety concerns due to the deteriorated condition of the field's wooden bleachers. With the leadership of Jim Godbout, President of the Waterhouse Field Commission, and significant financial contributions from local businesses and the community, the field underwent a comprehensive renovation. This included the installation of new aluminum bleachers by E & D Specialty Stands, durable exterior fencing, new lighting, a state-of-the-art digital video scoreboard, and a sophisticated drainage system along with artificial turf. The project also addressed structural enhancements like a new roof for the visitors' locker room and rebuilding the press box. The effort culminated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city leaders, volunteers, and school officials, symbolizing the collective effort and commitment of the Biddeford community to preserving a vital part of their city's heritage. State Representative Marty Grohman and Biddeford Schools Superintendent Jeremy Ray commended the community's collaborative spirit and Jim Godbout's pivotal role in driving this monumental project to fruition, reinforcing the value of community engagement and shared responsibility.
